Simulating the Effects of Pesticides on Honey Bee (Apis mellifera L.) Colonies with BeePop+

چکیده

The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) employs a tiered process for assessing risks of pesticides to bees. model discussed in this paper focuses on honey bees (Apis mellifera L.). If are identified at the first tier based exposure and toxicity data individual adult larval bees, then effects evaluated higher-tier studies using bee colonies. Colony-level require large amounts resources (to conduct review) can yield complicated by inherent variability colonies, which influenced factors that cannot readily be controlled, including weather, pests, diseases, available forage, management practices. To better interpret these data, USEPA Department Agriculture (USDA) developed simulation model, BeePop+, assesses potential colony-level pesticides. Here, we describe population guidance, use, interpretation, development ecological risk assessment (Pop-GUIDE) framework, is conceptual framework evaluation models. Within context Pop-GUIDE, BeePop+ considered “realistic-precise” reflects colony response pesticide simulating many outcomes. This meets desired features needed use assessments as its required inputs typically available, it applicable different locations, outputs both relevant USEPA’s protection goals consistent with outcomes empirical studies. has also been data; however, additional other may still done future prior completing implementation.

Oxidative Enzyme Systems of the Honey Bee, Apis Mellifera L

1. Oxidative dissimilation has been studied in enzymes from the honey bee. Using mitochondria isolated from the thoraces, complete oxidation of most of the TCA cycle members has been shown. 2. The presence of the acetate-activating enzyme, citrate-condensing enzyme, isocitric dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate, and 6-phosphogluconic dehydrogenase has been demo...

Heterosis in the Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera L.).

HERE are three castes in the honey bee colony: the drone, queen, and worker. T The latter two are both females. The drone bee is a male, representing a haploid gamete of the queen bee heading his hive. The honey bee colony is composed of two generations of bees. The queen bee is, in effect, a potent egg-laying machine, while the workers are morphologically and functionally fitted for honey and ...

Pesticide residues in beeswax samples collected from honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.) in France.

In 2002 a field survey was initiated in French apiaries in order to monitor the health of honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera L.). Studied apiaries were evenly distributed across five sites located in continental France. Beeswax samples were collected once a year over 2 years from a total of 125 honey bee colonies. Multiresidue analyses were performed on these samples in order to identify residu...

The Effects of Pesticides on Queen Rearing and Virus Titers in Honey Bees (Apis mellifera L.)

The effects of sublethal pesticide exposure on queen emergence and virus titers were examined. Queen rearing colonies were fed pollen with chlorpyrifos (CPF) alone (pollen-1) and with CPF and the fungicide Pristine(®) (pollen-2). Fewer queens emerged when larvae from open foraging (i.e., outside) colonies were reared in colonies fed pollen-1 or 2 compared with when those larvae were reared in o...

Maternal influence on the acceptance of virgin queens introduced into Africanized honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies.

The oviposition potential of honey bee queens decreases with age, therefore it is important to replace old queens with younger ones on a periodic basis. However, queen replacement is problematic, especially in Africanized honey bee colonies, since many introduced queens are not accepted, and virgin queens are less easily accepted than are mated queens. We assessed the influence of genetic origi...
